Background of the Study
Environmental degradation, driven by human activity, has become a critical issue in many parts of Nigeria, with significant consequences for public health and sustainability. In Kebbi State, environmental challenges such as deforestation, poor waste management, and water pollution have led to reduced agricultural productivity, health problems, and increased vulnerability to natural disasters (Garba & Abubakar, 2023). In response, community-based environmental awareness campaigns have emerged as an important strategy for educating the public and promoting sustainable practices at the grassroots level (Bala et al., 2023).
These campaigns often focus on raising awareness about the dangers of environmental degradation and encouraging actions such as proper waste disposal, tree planting, and water conservation. Research has shown that such initiatives can lead to positive changes in community attitudes and behaviors, resulting in improved environmental health (Sule & Zakari, 2023). This study will evaluate the impact of community-based environmental awareness campaigns in Kebbi State, examining the effectiveness of these campaigns in influencing local environmental practices and improving overall public health.
Statement of the Problem
Despite efforts to address environmental degradation in Kebbi State, significant challenges remain, including poor waste management and unsustainable agricultural practices. Community-based environmental awareness campaigns have been implemented, but their effectiveness in changing local attitudes and behaviors has not been comprehensively assessed. This study aims to evaluate the impact of these campaigns on environmental and health outcomes in the state.
